The University of Western Macedonia (UOWM) may provide scholarships to doctoral candidates based on excellence criteria, aiming to reward them, as well as reciprocal scholarships for the provision of work or participation in research and development projects. The scholarships can be funded either by the reserves of the Special Account for Research Funds, by resources from self-funded programs of UOWM, or by funding from research and/or development programs (which are funded by private, international, and own resources under Article 230 of Law 4957/2022, as well as co-financed projects under the Partnership Agreement for the Development Framework (ESPA)), or by sponsorships, or by donations from legal and natural persons, or by resources from the Departments.
The candidates:
After an invitation, the doctoral candidates who meet the terms and conditions submit an application along with the necessary documents for the scholarship award.
Depending on the funding source of the scholarships, the relevant bodies responsible for the selection process of the scholarship recipients are determined (e.g., Special Research Funds Account, Assembly of the Department, etc.).
a) Excellence Scholarships
The selection criteria for excellence scholarships are:
Progress report/recommendation from the Tripartite Advisory Committee,
Research work,
Publications,
Contribution to the educational/laboratory/research work of their Department,
Personal or family financial situation.
b) Reciprocal Scholarships
The academic scholar is required to:
In case inappropriate behavior is found in their role as academic scholars, their scholarship will be immediately revoked.
The scholarship is paid in installments to the recipient, following a written certification in which the exact number of hours of attendance is recorded.
The certification is signed by the Dean of the School or the President of the Department where the scholar is enrolled and is sealed by the Secretariat of the School or Department.
Selection criteria for reciprocal scholarships:
The maximum amount for reciprocal scholarships is set at 650€ for 80 hours.
Doctoral candidates, following the decision of the Department Assembly, may be assigned auxiliary teaching work with an hourly remuneration based on Programs of First and Second Cycle Studies.
Auxiliary teaching work includes supporting Teaching and Research Staff (D.E.P.) in their teaching work, conducting tutorials, preparing and grading exercises, supervising exams, and grading papers.
The maximum hourly remuneration, which primarily applies to private, national, and international funds of the Institution, is 8.12€/hour.
